What We Would Do Differently If We Started Our Homestead Again
Apr 25, 2023Starting a homestead can be an exciting and rewarding endeavor, but it's not without its challenges. In our latest podcast episode, we discuss what we would do differently if we had the chance to start our homestead over again, knowing what we know now.
Lessons Learned
One of the things we emphasized was the importance of planning and research. We admitted that we jumped into our homesteading endeavors without really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. Taking the time to plan, research, and educate ourselves beforehand would have made a huge difference.
Another area where we could have done better was in building relationships with our local community. Building relationships with neighbors, other homesteaders, local farmers, co-ops, and suppliers can be invaluable for obtaining knowledge, resources, and support.
We also learned that prioritizing tasks and projects is key to avoiding stress and burnout. Focusing on one or two key areas at a time and building from there is more effective than trying to do everything all at once.
Tips for Success
If you're considering starting a homestead of your own, we have some tips for success that we'd like to share with you.
- Plan: Take the time to research and educate yourself before jumping in.
- Build Relationships: Connect with your local community and other homesteaders to build a sense of support and camaraderie.
- Prioritize: Focus on one or two key areas at a time and build from there.
- Maintain a Growth Mindset: Be adaptable and open to change, and learn from mistakes and failures.
